In this perspective of opening to contemporary art, the works of Minjung Kim is an extraordinary opportunity.
With this exhibition, the artist offers us a creative and original work, created by superimposing layers of traditional Korean paper, hanji, which she folds, glue and adorns with repetitive patterns, not with a brush but by burning the sheets with an incense stick or a candle. This long work of patience, in the repetition of the gestures which it imposes, plunges the artist into a meditative state conducive to creation. Minjung Kim brings to life the sensations of his calligraphy practice, the artistic and philosophical teachings of his early years in Korea, and the latest discoveries of European artistic movements. From this state arise singular, delicate, ethereal works, marked, nevertheless, with astonishing force. From February 26th until September 3rd, 2017, it is an unexpected discovery that will welcome the visitor to the rotunda of the Asian Arts Museum.
