George Gershwin: Cuban opening - Concerto in F - Rhapsody in blue - An American in Paris - Piano József Balog - Musical direction György G. Ráth.
On the occasion of the end of year festivities, the OPN takes us to the United States with a program 100% George Gershwin.
Gershwin was dismissed by the so-called "classical" composers and rejected by the jazzmen. He was a composer in the image of his country: a synthesis of experiences, a crossroads of styles and cultures. His blend of blues, jazz, symphonic and film music has resulted in a new alchemy of melodies, a mechanism that still works wonderfully today.
The color of the program will be announced by the brilliant Cuban Opening where the "exotic" percussions will dethrone the traditional orchestra number. The young Hungarian talent József Balog will play two scores that have made the tour of the world: the Concerto in Fa, created in 1925 at the Carnegie Hall and An American in Paris of 1928. The work is inspired by the stay of Gershwin in Paris. It evokes the places and the life of the French capital in the 1920.
