Jean-Sébastien Bach - Soprano Liesel Jürgens - Alto Sue-Jung Im - Tenor Zoltán Megyesi - Baritone Thierry Delaunay - Bass Stéphane Marianetti - Choir of the Nice Opera - Musical direction György G. Ráth.
Precious stone of the sacred repertoire, the Passion according to Saint John is an essential work of Protestant music. We know that Bach wrote five passions, three of which have not survived the wear and tear of centuries. This Passion composed for its first Friday in Leipzig in 1724 has an unprecedented dramatic force. Even if his dramaturgy does not properly relate to opera or theater, it is expressed in the way Bach intimately links the narration with his musical discourse and makes present in the unfolding of his work both the sufferings of Christ than other human reactions.
A challenge for the Nice Côte d'Azur Opera Choir, which plays a real role in this score. The soloists from the Choir will complete this distribution, which will be entrusted to the Maestro György Ráth's baton.
