A human tragedy transcended by the beauty and aesthetic sobriety of a puppet work signed by Arketal. A universal tale that touches our hearts. Based on the great disaster by Patrick Kermann - Directed by Sylvie Osman.
An Italian shepherd, Giovanni Pastore, leaves his mountains to look for work, dreaming of a better life. On board the Titanic, he is responsible for washing the 3177 dessert spoons for the first classes. As a stowaway, he will not climb into the lifeboats and will be swallowed up in the waves of the Atlantic. He comes back from the ocean to tell us his story. Among the ruins are his companions in exile, the engineer of the steamer, the captain, or even his mother, who visits him in a dream.
Patrick Kermann's breathless text reminds us of the sinking of the Titanic and a quartet of puppeteers led by Sylvie Osman bring to life characters that are overwhelming. Manipulated by three actors according to the Japanese technique of bunraku, Giovanni Pastore appears in the guise of a puppet animated by the voices of his interpreters. He is this shepherd, this shipwrecked man, he is also each of us, evoking the Europe of yesterday and today, while the Titanic becomes a paper figurine heavy with symbols.
