A Grammy Award winner, Kurt Elling is one of the most prominent vocalists on the international jazz scene.
First part: Denia Ridley.
Kurt Elling's baritone voice covers 4 octaves and combines impressive technical mastery with deep emotion. His repertoire, which includes original compositions as well as modern interpretations of great standards, gives pride of place to improvisation, scat, spoken word and poetry. Kurt Elling is known for his mastery of vocalese, a jazz practice of writing and singing lyrics on an existing solo. Natural heir to pioneers Eddie Jefferson, King Pleasure and Jon Hendricks, Elling has written his own lyrics on solos by Wayne Shorter, Keith Jarrett and Pat Metheny. He often includes references to famous authors of literature, such as Rilke, Rumi, Neruda or Proust. His coming to the Nice Côte d'Azur Opera will be the opportunity to discover his latest project "the questions" co-produced with Brandford Marsalis. A date not to be missed under any circumstances.
