Olivier was able to try out the Escalinada restaurant during a day of visits "Nice, through the ages" organised by the Nice Convention and Visitors Bureau during the Archeology Days.
Located near the Place Garibaldi and close to the green belt (in Old Nice), the Escalinada is a restaurant with the precious label "Cuisine nissarde" since 2014! This label is awarded by a committee of experts including the Nice Tourist Office and Nice chefs.
We are greeted by the manager and his team with a Kir and a piece of pissaladière, the real pissaladière! We do not mess around with the cuisine and local products, it is the respect of the traditions and in particular the beautiful tradition of the kitchen nicoise.
We have a wide choice of dishes. I start with a chickpea salad, a nice and generous homemade dish! The little extra is Aioli sauce: Be careful not to overdo it ... it is delicious! The price of the dish: 7.50 €.
A hot dish follows with traditional stew and homemade gnocchi, it was just fabulous! I admit that I rarely eat this kind of dish but this one was particularly good! A generous dish at 19,50 €.
As you understand, everything is "homemade"!
Finally, the dessert that I love most and it is by far my favorite: it is the homemade lemon meringue pie! It should be noted that the pastry is like shortbread and is homemade ... a real delight! And in addition we are not very far from the country of lemons in Menton!
Homemade dishes, family recipes, local cooking as we love it, generous with a benevolent welcome. L'Escalinada is open 7/7, for lunch and dinner: 22 Rue Pairolière, 06300 Nice.
