The Route des Oliviers

Nice's olives enjoy two Appellations d’Origine Protégée [Designation of Protected Origin]: 'AOP Huile d’Olive de Nice' for its mellow, fruity olive oil and 'AOP Olive de Nice' for its black olives and tapenade.

For over two thousand years now, the olive tree has been an integral part of the Nice landscape, where it was recorded as growing in 104 of the 163 municipalities of the Alpes-Maritimes département.
Olive trees aged several hundreds of years old can still be found in the region.
AOC production involves 120 farmers in the Alpes-Maritimes. 2,000 producers make use of the département's 25 active mills.
Guided tours of the land and oil mills complete with tasting (for groups of 10 or more) are available in the milling period, which runs from December to February.
