FAQ - Covid-19

The Nice Côte d'Azur Metropolitan Convention and Visitors aims to inform you in the best possible way about the various health and organisation measures implemented to ensure your protection.

Can I travel to France now from abroad?

You will find on the website of the French Interior Ministry the latest information (and the documents to be provided if necessary) concerning the conditions of entry on French territory according to the country you are coming from.

Is it compulsory to wear a mask?

Since 20 July 2020, the wearing of masks is compulsory in France in all enclosed public spaces (liable to a 135€ fine). A municipal decree also makes the wearing of masks compulsory in certain districts of Nice from Monday 3 August. To find out which areas of the city are concerned, click here.

Where can I buy a mask?

You can buy disposable and reusable fabric (general public) masks in certain department stores, pharmacies and tobacconists, in train stations and at Nice Côte d'Azur airport.


Can I take the train or plane to come to Nice?

Yes, from 2nd June, the services are gradually being increased (a mask must be worn on all public transport)

Does urban public transport operate normally?

Yes, a normal service has been restored (masks must be worn and certain doors must be used when getting on or off).

Can I move freely on foot or by bicycle?

Yes! The City of Nice wants the reopening of transport to be accompanied by a more accessible alternative mobility offer in order to relieve the burden on public transport and promote soft modes of transport. Among these measures is an experimental cycling plan on some of the city's main roads.

Vélo Bleu and e-Vélo Bleu services are free of charge until 1st July.

Can I take a taxi/VTC?

Yes, but the number of passengers is limited and the wearing of a mask is necessary in the absence of driver/passenger protection.

What measures are being taken in terms of parking?

On-street parking is free in Nice until 30 June 2020. In addition, the Ferber car park (at the western entrance to Nice) has been transformed into a park-and-ride facility for electric bicycles with parking for light vehicles.

What about the ferries to Corsica ?

The ferry service between the port of Nice and Corsica will resume during the first week of July


Are the hotels and holiday rentals open?

Yes, except for certain exceptional closures. See our hotel and holiday appartment pages.


Are the restaurants open ?

Bars and restaurants are authorized to reopen as from 2nd June but must respect social distancing.


How do I know which museums and cultural venues are open?

On our web pages concerning museumsgalleries and cultural activities and museums around Nice, we indicate on the pages with the red picto the dates of reopening of the establishments as soon we have the information.


Are the beaches open?

Beaches and beach restaurants are authorized to reopen as from 2nd June 2020


Are there any restrictions regarding the practice of a sport activity?

Individual outdoor sports are allowed subject to respecting the rules of social distancing.

Gynasiums and swimming-pools and authorized to reopen from 2nd June.

Parks and Gardens

Can I walk in the parks and gardens?

Yes, the parks and gardens of Nice reopened on Monday 11 May.

The children's playgrounds remain closed and the water mirror is not in service.

11 parks throughout the city (Arson, Banville, Caressa, Square Leclerc and bandstand of the Coulée verte, Dorgelès, Chambrun, Cimiez Monastery, Villa Masséna, Carras, Vérola de Saint Isidore garden) are reserved for seniors from 7am to 12pm.

Shops and shopping centres

Which shops are open?

Shops are allowed to open from May 11th, including hairdressers, beauty salons and the shopping centres of Nice Etoile, Cap 3000 and Polygone Riviera.

Wearing a mask is strongly recommended and may be required by some shopkeepers.

Outdoor markets

Are the markets open?

The food markets reopen on Tuesday 12 May, the second-hand booksellers' market (Nice) from Saturday 23 May and the flea-market (Nice) from 25 May.


I had to cancel my hotel reservation: can I get a refund?

Following the many cancellations suffered by the tourism industry, l'ordonnance n° 2020-315 du 25 mars 2020 on the financial conditions for cancelling certain tourist travel and holiday contracts in the event of exceptional and unavoidable circumstances or force majeure, modifies the obligations of professionals by allowing them to offer their customers, instead of an immediate refund, a credit note valid for a period of eighteen months for all cancellations made between 1 March and 15 September 2020. If at the end of these 18 months, the client has not used his credit, the professional will have to provide a refund.
