True to its reputation as a unifying and family event, the Nice Jazz Festival will host once again this year several big names on the international scene including Black Eyed Peas who sign their big comeback, the incomparable Nile Rodgers with Chic or the 90s icon Neneh Cherry. The unique setting of the festival has also attracted French artists who made the news in recent months, from Angèle to The Blaze through Bigflo and Oli and Hocus Pocus.
On the jazz side, the festival-goers will be entitled to an exceptional bill with Ibrahim Maalouf who invites the Haïdouti Orkestar, the great violinist Jean-Luc Ponty, the American references Fred Hersch and Christian McBride, the singer Sarah McKenzie and The Jazz Messengers Legacy who will pay tribute to the legendary drummer Art Blakey.
Not to mention the exciting new generation that mixes more than ever its jazz with other music, whether it comes from England - with the sensation KOKOROKO which accumulates millions of views, the much sought-after saxophonist Nubya Garcia or London's flagship band Ezra Collective -, the United States (Christian Sands, Makaya McCraven, Judi Jackson, Masego) or France with the trio of pianist Fred Nardin, the Caribbean Stories project by Samy Thiebault, the adopted Niçois Adrien Brandeis and Frederic Viale, winner of Nice Jazz Festival sessions 2018.
The sound of Cuba will also resonate at the Théâtre de Verdure with Omara Portuondo, the diva of the Buena Vista Social Club, and the collective Orquesta Akokán. The rock tornado from the Congo Jupiter & Okwess, programmed on the Scene Massena, will also raise the temperature and soul lovers will revel in the exceptional voices of Kimberose, Jacob Banks or Jordan Rakei and the tribute of Jose James to the legendary Bill Withers of Ain't No Sunshine. Great moments of music and sharing in perspective
