Built in the 17th century by the lords of Villeneuve in the heart of the medieval town and opposite the legendary ash tree immortalised by the painter Soutine, the building was bequeathed to the town council in 1966 by Emile Hugues, former minister and mayor of Vence. In compliance with the latter's wishes, today the building is a museum centre entirely dedicated to art and youth activities.
A line-up of major themed exhibitions centred on modern and contemporary art is rolled out throughout the year in the castle's luminous spaces. In this regal residence, visitors are invited to explore the meaning, pleasure and contemplation inherent to the artworks.
